getting started - web developer

[WHAT]

] there is a ? quora that asks what are the 5 essential skills you need as a web developer? . Let me tell you why I love this question?, b/c he asked for 5, IF he would have said what are the "essential skills" one could have pondered on this much longer, When I answered the question my list of 5 skills contained the same skills(skillset) that many others offered up, one might even call it the consensus list.

] Many others who answered the same question offered up skills like "the love of learning" or "being a team player" even "being lazy" . Personally i would classify these as "character traits" that could potentially enhance your success as a web developer, not the fundamental skills per se that you will need to be a web developer. A "love of learning" for example is something that is necessary to be a successfull web developer but for this article am focusing striclty on the hard "skills" needed to create the products (web page/s) and get the product onto the shelf(the web site) so to speak

[WHY]

]

[WHERE]

]

[WHEN]

]

[EXAMPLE]

] web page 1

] html

] web page 2

] html + css

] web page 3

] html + css + js

] web page 4

] html + css + js + asp.net

] web page 5

] html + css + js + asp.net + sql

[HOW-TO]

] building your first web page

] by Don Sagrott - founder @sospep.com -

] html

] # # - this is relatively easy, and a great place to start your web developer journey

] css

] # # - again this is pretty easy, kinda neat, kinda fun and very productive once you get the hang of it

] js -

] # # - here is where things are going to start to get a little bit harder! Ultimately, the current state of web development is becoming a state of web application development to create applications you need to know how to program. A little bit of research can show you that many in the industry say becoming a good programmer can take 10 years, which is quite likely true. Don't get discouraged, a little bit of programming know how can take you a long way, start by learning the fundamentals first and progressively building on your knowledge in a consistent fashion.

] asp.net OR ??? -

] # # - asp.net is a programming framework for web application development. Once again we are talking about programming again. The primary difference here is that your now programing on the server and its likely that you will be programming in a different programming language than javascript

] # # - OR ?? - asp.net is just one of many server side frameworks,

] sql OR ??? -

] # # -

] more

] # # - while these 5 essential skills, can get you up and running with a pretty decent array of capablities, you have not yet covered the entire gamut of skills that you will call upon in your day to day routine, things like - tools, deployment,

[REFERENCE]

] so you think you wannabe a [web developer]?

] # 4518 - by Don Sagrott, founder @sospep.com - overview - define web dev roles, outlines pros and cons, where and how to get started
