dear john

A reply to :John Chen's - An Open Letter to BB customers

] Thanks for your recent "open letters" about the state of Blackberry.

] It signals to me that their may be some "transparency' coming from the front offices about the direction, operation and future of the company.

] I believe that this should help to improve some widely held perceptions & perhaps many widely held misperceptions that seem to be pretty rampant regarding bb today in the consumer market. Things like ...

] blackberry is dead

] blackberry is dying

] blackberry should die

] blackberry is old technology

] blackberry is irrelevant

] there is nothing unique about blackberry

] etc, etc, etc, ...

] I could go on here about the "perceptions" but I think that you get the "gist" of what i am saying...

] AND if you think this is just 1 random guy's observations, just go to any of the major technology blogs today and search for any article about blackberry, any article, then scroll through the first 10-20 comments and it should become even more apparent.

] also disconcerting, maybe even more so ...

blackberry is being dropped from the mobile os conversation in the technology media, when the techies, particularily the SV techies, talk about mobile devices, os, ecosystems - it has become a 2.5 point conversation, android, ios and with perhaps a passing mention(.5) to msft's windows phone platform.

[next]

] the top "10" unique things about BB

] I made a list of the top 10 things about the OS, that, IMO, I think, are UNIQUE or DISTINCTIVELY BLACKBERRY, aka the differentiators that set it apart from every other mobile O/S out there (currently).

] you need to get this list to your marketing people and have them work with it, this needs to be part of the message, blackberry's mantra, their reason d'aitre, it needs to be hammered home, again and again.

] top 10 things BB does better

] I also made a list of the top 10 things that IMO, I think are BETTER ON BLACKBERRY, aka the features and functionality that your devices and software, deliver better than any of the other mobile operating systems (currently)

] you need to get this list to your marketing people and have them work with it, this needs to be part of their message, blackberry's mantra, their reason d'aitre, it needs to be hammered home, again and again.

] top 10 things BB needs to get better at ...

] consumer marketing - hey I realize that you don't have the deep pockets of the other players in the game and that you cant "go samsung" on the consumer market, BUT that doesn't mean that you can't market. ] Marketing people are creative geniuses, it's time for them to earn their pay and get creative, it's time for them to try some new things. The days of simply picking from 1 of the presented media campaigns and then choosing which media buy package to go with and then heading off to the cottage on thursday night are over and gone.
