<li dir="ltr">before we begin, tell me, what do you use your start button to do&nbsp;....</li>

<li dir="ltr">] what do you do with the your "start button" that you can't do with the new windows 8 "start screen", go ahead, tell me, i am waiting ...</li>
</ol>
<li>what follows is a list of some of the COMMON TASKS that i do from the windows 8 start screen</li>
<ol>
<li>] remember how to get to the start screen, ] see Step 1.a or just ] press the windows key</li>
</ol></ol>
<h2>and here they our , our first 20 tips</h2>

<li dir="ltr">now&nbsp;that&nbsp;we are ready to begin, after your computer is turned ON and&nbsp;your looking at that pretty lock screen</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] press the windows key to remove the lock screen so you can log in, OR press any key OR click the mouse OR&nbsp;move the mouse wheel OR ...</li>
</ol>
<li>now after you "log in" to your computer </li>
<ol>
<li>] your computer will boot to the new windows 8 start screen</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i use my start button+menu to launch my programs (or applications or apps) where i do real work, </li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] me too, but i do it from the start screen</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">so once your on the start screen, you remember how to get there right?</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type the "app name" where app name is the name of program/app that you want to run, ( i tested ] "word", ] "excel", ] "notepad", ] "internet explorer" or "ie' ] "chrome" ] "mail" ] "calendar" ] "reader", ] "skype" ] "windows media player", ] ) and guess what, they all worked!!! AND in many cases just typing the first few letters of the program name worked )</li>

<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Documents" folder</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "documents" - this opens up your documents folder</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Pictures" folder</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "pictures" - this opens up your Pictures folder,</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">SPECIAL BONUS TIP &nbsp;IF You type "photos", instead of pictures</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "photos" - this brings up the new photo's app, where you can also view your Pictures AND you can&nbsp;do more stuff like easily sharing your photos with ...</li>

<li>capture a picture of what you see on the screen</li>
<ol>
<li>] The Windows key + Print Screen button takes a screenshot and saves it in a Screenshots folder nested in your Pictures folder.</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Music"</li>

<li dir="ltr">] type "music" - this brings up 2 options, the music app(headphones icon) and the music folder(with the music note icon), the app take you into the xbox live music service,</li>
<li dir="ltr">] the music (musical note) icon is your collection of audio files you possibly&nbsp;have on your computer</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">EXTRA SPECIAL - EXTRA BONUS TIP</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "music"&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li dir="ltr">] click &ldquo;play an artist&rdquo;</li>
<li dir="ltr">] type "bryan adams" or celine dion or "justin beiber" or "whatever artist you like", NOW sit back, listen, enjoy</li>

<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Games"</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "games" - this brings up xbox live games app,</li>
</ol>
<li>wheres the the desktop?</li>
<ol>
<li>] press the "windows key + D" - returns you into desktop mode where you can do all the things that you do from your desktop</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i don't REMEMBER what the name of the program I want ... i need to see ALL MY PROGRAMS</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "apps" AND esc, esc - you should now SEE ALL THE APPS that you have on your PC, click the one you want, and that app will open up and you can go to work doing whatever it is that you do with it</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i want to install a&nbsp;new APP or two, </li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "Store"</li>
<li dir="ltr">] now browse through the various apps to your hearts content until you find the one that peaks your interest</li>
<li dir="ltr">] click "install"</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i want to uninstall an app</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] see step 10.1 to bring up a screen showing all the programs you have installed</li>
<li dir="ltr">] right click the program or the programs that you want to uninstall</li>
<li dir="ltr">] click the "uninstall" icon located on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen.</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i have a file named &ldquo;taxes&rdquo;, &ldquo;journal&rdquo;, &ldquo;recipes&rdquo;, "what have" and i want to work on it ...</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] press the windows key + f</li>
<li dir="ltr">] type the "name of the file" you want to work on, where "name of the file" is the name that you gave the file .... it will open</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i don't remember the name of the file i want</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type &ldquo;i forgot&rdquo; , it will open</li>
<li dir="ltr">] igore the above , i am just kidding!!</li>
<li dir="ltr">] press the windows key + e -&nbsp; opens the new and improved windows file explorer&nbsp;where you can browse your files, good luck</li>

<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Control Panel"</li>
<ol>
<li dir="ltr">] type "Control Panel" , in my case just the first 3 letters of "con" was all it took</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to open my "Device Manager"</li>

<li dir="ltr">] DON'T type "Device Manager" B/C &nbsp;this does NOT work, you should&rsquo;nt be in here anyways, leave now, immediately .... just kidding .. see below</li>

<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to HACK my system</li>

<li dir="ltr">] "windows key + x" - opens up a menu of windows tools that you may use, like ] Command Prompt&nbsp;&nbsp;] Device Manager, ] Disk Manager&nbsp;] Event viewer ] PowerShell, &nbsp;] ..., go ahead - hack away !!!</li>

<li dir="ltr">] type "computer", in my case just the first 3 letters of "com" was all it took</li>
</ol>
<li dir="ltr">i use my start button to shut down my Computer</li>

<li dir="ltr">] press the windows key AND the L key,</li>
<li dir="ltr">] click the power icon (in the&nbsp;lower right corner of the screen)&nbsp;</li>
<li dir="ltr">] click the shutdown option </li>

<li dir="ltr">OR (from the desktop)</li>

<li dir="ltr">] press alt+f4,</li>
<li dir="ltr">] press enter</li>

<li dir="ltr">note - my new laptop was "going to sleep" not "shutting down" when i pressed power, if yours is doing the same&nbsp;and you actually want it to shutdown, you can set it to shutdown in the "power options" settings.</li>

After you've logged in to your account, you started&nbsp;"APPS" like mail, people and&nbsp;photos and PROGRAMS like&nbsp;word and excel.&nbsp;You opened your Documents folder AND opened the files that&nbsp;you work with regularly, you've installed NEW apps and uninstalled apps that you didnt care for. You've viewed your Pictures and listened to some music, and finished up by Shutting down the computer.</li>
