  1. ] BlackBerry CEO, John Chen, sat down with BNN recently to discuss an assortment of topics. Among them was targets for BlackBerry, monetization and security of BBM, how BlackBerry's Enstream deal differs from the mobile payment offering of Apple Pay, selfies and even Kim Kardashian's comments surrounding her BlackBerry and iPhone usage.

    1. ] on target of BBM generating $ 100M in revenue by the end of 2015 whatsApp generated 15M in revenue in 2014 with 600M users, BBM has 91M users, how is that target realistic?

    1. ] whatsapp focused exclusively on consumer, BBM has strong focus on enterprise, looking at how enterprise communicates, we have a lot of government agencies in Canada using it as communications tool, also security, having very private conversations inside the institution(enterprise) 
    2. ] there was a lot of noise on apple pay, looks bad on us, like we didn't do a good enough job
    3. ] we've been doing mobile payments infrastructure for a long time - example enstream in Canada,

    1. ] how is that service working? (mobile payments) people do want to get rid of their wallets, would be so convenient having it on your mobile device
  4. [01:30] CHEN
    1. ] some people want to get rid of their wallets, not all people, old people, like myself, more comfortable paying with cash
    2. ] it's transactional based, we are the infrastructure that clears the payments between the telephone companies, the merchants and the banks, we get a cut of the transactions

    1. ] kardashian loves her blackberry, Khardashian also has an iphone, because it takes great pictures, why not create a device for everbody?
  6. [02:25] CHEN
    1. i have never met this lady
    2. ] i prefer to think about it as people get there iphone because its a fun thing to have, then they try to find something useful to do with it
    3. ] our camera and the software surrounding it, the ability to make stories add music, look at our latest device, the passport, it's tremendous
    4. ] i think, 1 of these days, something else may happen in the "iphone" competitor
    5. ] YES we would love to do that, we would love to get to 1 device

    1. ] be everything to everyone?
  8. [03:02] CHEN
    1. ] NO, we can't be everything to everybody are you talking about taking pictures?
    2. [reporter] YES
    3. ] seems like "selfie" is some kind of an application,
    4. ] we made a device that could do selfies well
    5. ] we will continue to explore these areas, multimedia
    6. ] areas where customers can use in both WORK and LIFE
    7. ] we wont lose the work part of it
    8. ] for example we just bought a company that can provide 2 phones numbers on the same SIM,
    9. ] those are the kinds of things that we will continue to explore
