    28. ] platform is not just OS, OS + cloud + apps, the msft ecosystem

    5. ] msft plan to compete on the price part of it,

    8. ] free version of windows for screens under 9" help these devices compete on prices
    9. ] win RT could have been a competitor for chrombooks, still waiting on touch first office for windows

    1. ] talked on last weeks show about the upcoming replacements for current office 365 skus(product versions)
    2. ] msft was trying to hide the complexity of why it will take a year to roll out all the products
    3. ] changes are all 'good news', but it was not communicated in a good way
    4. ] a msft product guy played the windows weekly podcast from last week to his team, conclusion was 'if these guys have this much trouble understanding how is a normal consumer supposed to understand it'
    5. ] what if your calling in for support on your office 365, over 60 versions of office 365 products and addins, what do you do? 
    6. ] too many versions, is a dark side, the trade off between choice and complexity

    1. ] a lot of announcements, a lot had been previously announced as preview or beta
    2. ] one of the big ones, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) 
    3. ] Scott Guthrie did keynote,
    4. ] and the example he used of setting up a sharepoint farm in a virtual machine, not too many in audience had done that yet
    5. ] right now, its a lot of steps and complicated
    6. ] putting some of msft's own applications in the VM's, to make it quicker and easier for users to setup and configure
    7. ] originally when thinking of moving from on premise to cloud services, you were thinking of remove and replace
    8. ] now there can be a combination of on premise and cloud services, used together, if desired
    9. ] on prem service could failover to azure, instead on to another machine
    10. ] hybrid cloud, a unique strength for msft
    11. ] msft is certifying apps for use on azure, 
    12. ] conference swag - some sessions got '8" dell tablet', others got discount of -229 on surface pro 3
    13. *"]LL - we(twit) are replacing our mac pros with windows machines, getting windows threshold when it comes out

    1. ] LL + PT - discuss their respective smartwatches, neither overly impressed, LL(G watch), PT (Samsung Gear Live) ,
    2. ] LL says all android watches are the same hardware, processor,ram, etc, thinks google did that on purpose, so the companies would focus on design

    13. ] apple doesnt make any enterprise grade mobile device management software
    14. ] IBM is the weak link in this deal

    17. ] apple/ibm - a strategy aimed at android, Samsung, a defensive move agains msft, an agressive move against android

    19. ] samsung enterprise features is not about selling enterprise management, its about buying more samsung devices
    20. ] lotus notes was a nightmare, unless you ever used another email client
    21. ] IBM is trying to show their "cloud presence", they are making aquisitions but they dont currently have cloud offereings on par with msft,google,amazon, ..., they are consulting company
    22. ] msft has an enterprise mobility suite which is ... pushing a lot in the year ahead

    25. ] LL - talks more about going with msft for their new hardware setup, got volume windows licences, main reason for using windows was SMB3(network protocol), they want to have a 10gb ethernet network, SMB3 not supported by apple, apple has abondoned their xserve filesystem, can go with SAN and fiber optics for MAC compatability, but is 3 to 4x the cost of windows setup, approx 80k worth of equipment windows
