  2. ] 11/30 microsoft is reporting windows 8 licence sales after 1 month at 40 million units, while PC shipments are down > 20% .
    1. ] sounds like a horrible month, a tragedy, they probably wont even open the doors for business on monday
  3. Others are reporting that licence sales doesnt equal people using windows 8, it is just the number of licences that msft has sold to OEMs for PC's that will possibly be using the operating system some time down the road.
  4. Microsoft is not currently releasing any further data on windows 8 adoption / actual usage.
    1. which kind of leads us to believe that the naysayers calling out the 40m as suspect.
  5. So of course the answer would lie in internet usage. the number of pc's using windows 8 measured by various firms counting/measuring global internet traffic.
  6. StatsCounter is reporting that user uptake(aka actual usage) of windows 8 is below that of window 7 levels based upon internet usage measured during the same amount of time after the os was released.
  7. Windows 8 had a worldwide Internet usage share of 1.31%, compared to 4.93% achieved by Windows 7 one month after its launch in 2009. Within the U.S., that number was slightly higher: 2.12%, versus 6.29% for the same period in 2009
  8. Some at ms are taking issue with the StatCounter numbers as apparently they don't factor in places like China and Japan, while of course they say, that they do.
