The Blackberry Passport ships with a good number( approx. 20) of core apps (BBM(messaging), Browser, DocsToGo, Link(Backup), Travel, Maps, Weather, Alarm Clock, Voice Assistant, ...) just like any other mobile os.
There ARE approx. 240K apps(currently) in Blackberry World.
PLUS all BB 10.x devices runs android apps.
The Passport has the amazon app store pre - installed, users can install any apps from the amazon app store as easily as they can install native BB apps from BB world
Amazon claims approx. 230K apps(currently) in their store.
It runs android apps. There are third party clients(SNAP) to access other android stores like(Google Play, mobile9) and download from their catalogs of android apps.
Android apps that are dependant upon "Google Play services" MAY have issues.
There are relatively simple "hacks" that you can use to run those apps, but they wont be for the mainstream user.
YOU can control which permissions that you want to grant each app, its not the "take it or leave it" non option that you currently have on android.
The BB 10 os scans android apps for malware before they are allowed to be installed on your BB device.
Android apps also run in their own sandbox, they dont have access to your entire device.
