well obviously that depends on where you see the cougar and how the cougar reacts when it sees you.

2] face the bear
3] back away from the bear
4] IF bear the continues to approach you or is aggressive towards you
5] speak to the bear in a loud voice "GO AWAY BEAR"
6] IF bear is still aggressive, step towards/fake charge bear,
7] IF the bear attacks, fight back with all your might, dont play dead ???
