google plus 'walking dead'

[WHAT]

  1. ] A former google intern and a current contributor to the tech blog techcrunch wrote a peice called "g+ is walking dead" which raised the possiblity of google 'killing off" the g+ "social network" after the abrupt resignation?departure of g+ cheif honcho Vic Gundotra.
    1. ] Vic Gundrota 'resigned'
  2. ] The Techcrunch article which 'blew up' and was then 'quoted by' multiple other publications including the likes of
    1. ] Business Insider
    2. ] and others
  3. ] And of course, the article also spawned a number of derivative works(OR copycat articles) like
    1. goodbye g+ i wish i never knew you
    2. ]
  4. ]

[WHY]

  1. ] views followers
  2. ] google plus is
  3. ]

[WHERE - i dont know]

  1. ] disclaimer -
  2. ] i dont know - why vic left, wether he left on his own accord or if it was a company decision
  3. ] i dont know - what the move of employees at google from the 'g+ team' to the android team means for the g+ n
  4. ]

[WHEN - i do know]

  1. ] g+ = google + x
    1. ] the grand scheme of the g+ sn plan is to bring together 'all of googles services' under a common identity,
    2. ] the g+ FOR YOU = a single login gets you access to all/any of the google services that you use, (and many 3rd party sites/services across the internet)
    3. ] the g+ FOR google = a single profile that contains everything that google knows about you, gathered from all of your activities across all of their services
  2. ] IMO, I believe that g+ is a better social networking application
    1. ] it has features like circles for distributing and recieving content,
    2. ] communities for sharing content on common subject,
    3. ] better options for controlling the sharing of your content both publicly and privately,
    4. ] better photo editing, storage and management features,
    5. ] better formatting for posts,
    6. ] google hangouts and
    7. ] integration with other g products like gmail, drive, ....
  3. ] no advertising on g+ is a bonus
    1. ] although its kind of ironic that the undisputed king of selling ads on the internet is not selling ads on its social network,
  4. ] BUT just because it's a better sn application, doesn't necassarily mean that it's going to be the "most popular sn"
    1. ] better or more features doesnt necessarily equate to more users,
  5. ] g+ is certainly NOT a ghost town,
    1. ] although it does make for a good joke or two
    2. ] and google did/does 'fudge' the numbers as to what it reports as 'active users' on the g+ sn, making it look lie
    3. ] g+ has grown faster then any other social network and that it is much younger(3) than competitor like facebook(10) and twitter(3)
    4. ]
  6. ] fb is a more popular social networking experience because more people are on facebook
    1. ] everyone is on facebook because everyone is on facebook -
    2. ] this means more of the people that you know IRL are there
    3. ]
  7. ] and it's just my opinion, yours may well differ and that's fine, i am certainly no sm expert
    1. ] nor have i exhaustively researched, analyzed and compared all of the different features of all of the different sm apps to determine this
  8. ] somewhat of a conclusions/consensus
    1. ] fb is where you go to interact with your IRL friends and family
    2. ] g+ is where you go to interact with interesting strangers that share your interests

[]  google is NOT killing "g+", google is g+

- response to the "g+ walking dead", kerfuffle

- is google killing off their social network?

- WHAT "google plus" is "google +" OR "g+" for short

[BACKGROUND]

- well we all know and love* g the search engine

- but g aint just a search engine anymore, ever since Paul B spit out g mail, g has been growing a 'continuously evolving' set of cloud based services

- these services included the likes of g calendar, g task, g drive, ...

- then came mobile and android and chrome os

- MOST of these services are hiqh quality and offered up to the end user FREE OF CHARGE, although as we should all know by now, FREE doesn't necessarily come without any cost.

- g sells ads,

- to those in the know the g+ social network is a better social network, not only is it more advanced and feature rich technically, on the whole 'the quality of the content' is better then what the other networks offer AND there are no ads

- to those happy with 'other social networks',
