[WHAT]

  1. This article attempts to outline some of the 'key factors' involved in choosing the right/best smartphone for you. It is written with the 'good intention' of helping the non or less technically inclined, new smartphone user/s decide on which smartphone might be the best choice for them.
  2. There are a lot of variables that come into play when choosing a smartphone (os, device, brand, apps, service provider, service package) and I can imagine that walking into any 1 of a myriad of smartphone vendors with the countless choices, mix in some sales person bias, personal opinions, current promotions, etc and it could make choosing that new smartphone somewhat overwhelming/confusing or even frustrating.
  3. It's doesnt have to be confusing, its really quite simple!  Start by choosing your operating system(os). Currently there are 2 primary choices. ios (by apple) and android (open source) are the 2 biggies and together they account for almost 90% of the mobile os market. Choosing between them based on market share (66 to 22) may make it seem pretty straitforward BUT keep in mind that apple has been around a lot longer and that android is coming on strong for a number of very good reasons. Check out my ios-VS-android comparision which attempts to outline some of the basic differences between these 2 os.

      3. iphone 4(older) The previous version will likely be available for <$ (est 200)
    2. android - lots of choices from many different mfgs(samsung,sony,htc,lg, ... ) the following models are some of the most popular choices today (this will change )
      1. samsung galaxy sIII
      2. htc one x
      3. sony experion
      4. motorola razr
    3. NEXT windows 8 - a handful of choices from a few mfgs (nokia, htc, )
    4. NEXT bb 10 - touch or keyboard or both
    5. others - ??, dont think there are any others for consideration at this time, that may change

    3. windows 8 - yeah OK, microsoft is new to the apps game, but they are getting into it and there is a huge 'windows' development community that exists infrastructure
    4. bb - the bb 10 os will run android apps,
    5. others - ??, dont think there are any others for consideration at this time, that may change
