[WHEN]

  1. ] 2016-05-13

[EXAMPLE]

  1. ] wrote about how struggled with his tech jobsearch after graduating coding bootcamp
  2. ] mocked by the internet for his mention of google recruiting him, was told he would have no chance of passing interview
  3. ] took this as a challenge, set up on site interview with googles NYC campus
  4. ] One of the criticisms of coding bootcamps is that they don’t place a strong emphasis on learning algorithms and data structures. This is where I must admit that, alas, my bootcamp education did not prepare me to solve graphing equations or to balance binary trees. What it did do was foster a love for coding and building projects. If you ask me to spin up a responsive website or mobile app, I can do it fairly well. But as for solving these types of problems, I was very inexperienced.
  5. ] studied algorithms, material geared for coding java, didnt know that so used the newest version of javascript(ES6) instead
  6. ] no pressure to get a google job off, as he already has job, what he learned should be applicable to his current role
  7. ] found js surprisingly fast (compared to ruby)
  8. ] interviewed by 5 google employees
  9. ] in each interview, was given a technical problem and asked to whiteboard a solution
  10. ] if solution was reached before the 45 minute time limit, was asked to improve the efficiency of the solution
  11. ] opportunity to ask questions of the interviewer at the end of the interview
  12. ] some interviews felt like a breeze, while he struggled with others
  13. ] likewise some interviewers made him feel more 'relaxed', while others took a more 'critical' approach
  14. ] no job offer
  15. ] was told that he needed to be 'more consistent'
  16. ] feels confident in the progress he has made in a month of learning, should be even better in a year
  17. ] ALSO - going to write a book about learning algorithms and preparing for coding interviews?—?in JavaScript
