    1. NASCAR is a sanctioning body that organizes stock car racing series. They have multiple divisions but the major division/series is known as the NASCAR SPRINT CUP series (or CUP)
    2. The SPRINT CUP championship is an annual series of 36 races at 23 different tracks across the USA, the first 26 races serve as a "regular season" to qualify 12 of the drivers in the series for a 10 race championship playoff that determines the annual series champion.
    3. 43 cars are entered per race in the SPRINT CUP series, the cars start the race based upon the qualifying time set at each of the race events.
    4. The CARs are "modelled upon" STOCK production cars being sold by the auto mfgs. Currently there are 3 major auto MFG's involved in NASCAR(CHEVROLET, FORD and TOYOTA) Back in the early/early days of NASCAR. the cars that were raced were actually modified production cars BUT TODAY, make no mistake, these cars are custom built purebred racing machines that produce approx 900 hp from a 360 cu inch v8 engine in a front engine, rear drive setup that uses a manually shifted transmission and a solid rear axle.
    5. THE DRIVERS -
    6. THE TEAMS - There are several multi car teams and a handful of smaller single/two car teams that are newer and struggling to survive/succeed/break into the sport. The major players today are a handful of teams that comprise approx half the field at each event and include ...

      2. FORD - Roush Fenway(3), RPM(2)

    7. POINTS - Drivers are awarded points for each race based upon their finishing position in the race. The higher you finish the more points you accumulate. Additional BONUS points are awarded for leading a lap, leading the most laps, qualifying
    8. THE RACE - varies in length by track/event, races are typically 4-500 miles, and most are approx 3 - 4 hours in duration.
