    1. ] As we reported previously, European regulators asked Google, Microsoft and Yahoo to answer a 26-point questionnaire about its implementation of Europe’s right-to-be-forgotten rules. Google answered, and published their answers in a public Google Docs file
    2. ] google trying to bring awareness to what there being forced to do by EU, quietly censor search results, EU implying it should be hush hush
    3. ] interesting things that emerged from what google published
    4. ] many "requests" are made with false and inaccurate information,
    5. ] google is being asked to sort this out BUT they have to rely on the claims of the people making the requests, google has limited ability to verify claims
    6. ] example - journalists are asking to remove links to articles they have written on publications that they worked at previously, they want people to forget their previous work
    7. ] google got 90K requests, has approved 53% as of July 18
    8. ] a smart move from google from a PR perspective,
    9. ] google + apple are heavily targeted by EU, in some cases rightfully so, but in this case, they are going to try to embarass the EU into
    10. ] google also has vested interest in NOT removing search results.
    11. ] this is leading to making the search engines - in accurate, as a solution to the problem of freedom of information

    1. ] a nice looking smartwatch coming this fall, 
    2. ] designer Michael Bastien, generally works on men's clothing lines, accessories, has made a few watches previously , look standard, high end, limited edition, 1 of his first ventures into this space
    3. ] approach from a different perspective, targeting people who already wear a watch as fashion accessory VS people who want to extend their smartphones functionality
    4. ] little known of HP's contribution to the project, maybe the software, android version of some sort, not sure if it will be android wear or their own variant, have said they will offer support for both platforms, ios + android
    5. ] an example of HP being odd, hard to understand what there trying to do, maybe demonstrating what they are able to do
  4. [19:00] new type of calendar app w/Josh Ong @theNextWeb
    1. ] Duke behavioral economics professor and author Dan Ariely has released a free iPhone calendar app that helps you make the most of your day. The app is called Timeful. And it uses sophisticated algorithms and behavioral science to suggest the best times of day to do things, such as getting exercise
    2. ] different - using science, behavioural economics, machine learning, artificial intelligence - to make you more efficient and keep you from making bad/poor decisions about how you schedule your life
    3. ] is science enough, this is a crowded marketplace with tons of good apps already available
    4. ] skeptical of some of the academic research that's backing this app
    5. ] truth is we waste a lot of time, Dan's research is in why people do things irrational, why do we often make choices that often don't make sense/are irrational
    6. ] app's goal is to help us determine "when is most productive time of my day", "what tasks do i want to put in there"
    7. ] using intention tnote, modelled off of the music genome project,
    8. ] takes all the different tasks that you have to do, then evaluates them, why you want to do it, how important is it, good or bad,
    9. ] then uses that to rank the the task and automatically fill in your schedule
    10. ] feature is called habits, you tell it you would like to 'exersize more', 'do this', 'do that', and give it some info on how long it takes, then it will pop up 'suggestions' based on your calendar/availabity, ex youve got a few hours, why not 'go running'
    11. ] Dan Ariely is a fascinating guy, tech talks, books, one of the 3 co-founders of the company, Leo Laporte interviewed him on triangulation episode# 85
    12. ] other attributes - app is beautiful, really well designed, is going to depend on wether your interested in really filling in your calendar
    13. ] 2 kinds of people, some schedule just the main things, some schedule everything, this is likely more geared to the schedule everything type

    1. ] Russia is at it again. The country has signed a new "blogger law" that requires any person with over 3,000 daily readers to register and disclose personal information to the government.
    2. ] reportedly gov is saying we dont care about cat bloggers BUT if your - example political pundits (freedom of speech, freedom of press) are responsible for all their content, including comments,that appear on their sites
    3. ] bloggers can be fined or even jail time
    4. ] attempt to silence the critics
    5. ] they need to register with the ru.gov, if they are asked to register,
    6. ] if they are, it means we are watching you, and everything you say
    7. ] part of a larger crackdown on freedom of expression in russia,
    8. ] reminiscent of Iran, previously had a totally free and open internet, then started cracking down and it has detoriated to ...
    9. ] russia seems to be going in the same direction, trying to bring back the glory days of the soviet union
  6. [28:00] google is scrapping 1 of its barges
    1. ] Remember those Google barges, the mysterious floating showrooms Google built out of shipping containers? Well now, the Portland Press Herald in the state of Maine is reporting that Google is dismantling at least one of them and turning the metal into scrap. The 250-foot barge’s 63 shipping containers were stacked to create a four-story building on the boat. No word on what’s to become of the West Coast barge that appeared in the San Francisco Bay last year.
    2. ] a wonderful exersize in ???, nobody cares about wasteful spending, hundreds of millions of dollars gone, maybe the fate of the barges mirrors the fate of google glass
  7. [29:45] mike gellar's google glass headset is stolen
    1. ] A tourist to New York City named Mike Geller got his Google Glass headset stolen. The thief asked to try it on, and once he was wearing it, ran away. But what the crook didn’t know was that Geller was using a third-party Glassware app called LiveLens, which live-streams video. Geller compiled footage from the thief’s life and posted it on YouTube.
