ny post says balmer will have to answer if windows 8 unsuccessfull

[WHAT]

  1. ] I was reading an article on the softpedia website which was reporting that Steve Balmer (MSFT CEO) was on his way out if windows 8 was unsuccessfull but more importantly we can see that from Balmers quotes that he also agrees that  "you dont need the start menu", along with several other key personell over at redmond hq,
    1. this article referred to a NY POST article which doesnt actually state that Balmer is on the way out ...
  2. ] this NY post article, states that msft CEO may have to "answer some questions" should windows 8 sales not pan out (you think?) and that sales of windows 8 licences are slow, but the article has some interesting numbers on w8 platform sales
    1. ] phone sales are on pace for 4x last years 4th qtr #'s of 2.5 million units,
    2. ] gartner predicts msft to have 16% market share by 2016 ( they currently have < 2)
    3. ] surface sales are likely in the 1 million unit ballpark for 2012 q4
  3. ] Steve Balmer,- after the new product launch in October, when questioned on wether microsoft would bring back the start button ...
    1. "That won’t happen", Ballmer told The Associated Press,
    2. especially because users have “a whole screen as a Start button.” Of course, he points out that
    3. Windows 8’s Start Screen is much more useful than just a Start button, as it also lets you launch files and apps extremely easy.
  4. ] Julie Larsen Green - in an interview with MIT ( one of the new co-presidents of the windows division at microsoft ), AGREES, you dont need the start button
    1.  Instead of having to find many little rocks to look underneath, you see a kind of dashboard of everything that’s going on and everything you care about all at once. It puts you closer to what you’re trying to get done.

  5. ] Stephen Sinofsky - formerly (windows) division president, was apparently the one who insisted for a Start Screen in Windows 8 and voices familiar with the matter claim that he even managed to convince Ballmer to dump the Start button.
    1. "the new Start Screen has the same fate as the Start button. Everybody criticized it at first and now they can live without it. It’s just a matter of time to get used to it, he said. So it’s all just a matter of time until everybody gets used to it
