windows 10 - technical preview

[WHAT]

  1. ] a breif look that windows 10 technical preview. This is an early version of the successor to microsfts windows 8 operating system.

[WHY - FEATURES - NEW(REVISED)]

  1. [00:00] NEW - Start Menu
    1. ] revised to be a combination of start screen(windows 8) with live tiles and a more tradittional start menu(ala windows 7)
    2. ] entire start menu is resizable
    3. ] start tiles are resizable, different sizes display different content
    4. ] optionally - users can choose set the windows 8 style "start screen" to be the start menu
  2. [02:05] NEW - virtual desktops
    1. ] users can now ADD multiple "virtual desktops" to their windows pc's. Create seperate "desktops" for "work" and for "play", or "by project" or by "what have you"
    2. ?] modified alt/tab behaviour ? -
  3. [03:00] UPDATED - modified "snap" behaviour
    1. ] after snapping your first window into position, the remaining open windows appear in the open area of the desktop, making it easier to select the next window that you want to have in your snapped view, you can then just click the window that you want to snap into place.
  4. [00:00] NEW - windows now have a shadow/glow effect around them

    2. *] you can turn this feature off - if you dont like it
  5. [03:45] NEW - full screen apps, now appear/run in a window on the desktop
    1. ] they have a menu, and a window frame and you can minimize them, maximize them, resize them and close them
    2. ] OPTIONALLY you can run them full screen
    3. ?] possibe future feature? - continuum - if you use app on a tradditional desktop/laptop and unplug mouse and keyboard it will revert to full screen mode
    4. ] menu - has options for ] Full Screen mode, also lets you access full screen settings like ] Share ] Search ] Settings aka the windows 8 charms menus
    5. ] menu also has options for ] Project - ?output to secondary screen?

    1. ] change the transparency (opacity) of the windows background
    2. ] resizeability - you can now resize the command prompt window
    3. ] maximize, minimize the window
    4. ] copy and paste

    1. ] located beside the start button on the task bar
    2. ] brings up the search app ( with default search provider Bing )
    3. *] automatically displays a listing of "trending searches" when you click the search button
    4. ] search your system files 
    5. *] talk of - cortana - msft personal assistant may be integrated into this as well
  8. [06:40] NEW integrated "Start", "Search" and "Task Manager" buttons in the TaskBar
    1. ] all in the same location, lower left corner of the screen, integrated into the task bar
  9. [06:50] UPDATED Explorer UI
    1. ] includes a new top level "home" icon that contains your ] favorites, ] frequent folders and ] recent files
    2. ] top level icons are now - ] Home, ] Favorites, ] OneDrive, ] This PC ] Network and ] HomeGroup
