    1. ] Martin Truex Jr, 2nd place, 16th in standings, Bridesmaid again, the 6th second place finish in 200+ starts since his last(only) win at Dover in 2007 and leading for many laps(146) including near the end, maybe Martin needs more time with his "sports pschyologist" to instill the "YES i can win this" attitude, points are also PENDING penalty assessment after the NASCAR post race inspection found a violation in Truex Jr's car ride height attributed to shock absorbers that were non functional. The late race caution for "debris " that came out with 20 laps to go was the last thing Truex wanted to see at the time and the final pit stop of Buschs 18 team put the final nail in the coffin(so to speak) for Martin + POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    2. ] Carl Edwards, 3rd place, 5th in standings,+2 POST RACE Edwards overcame numerous issues including what he thought was an impending engine failure and having his safety belts come undone, a bad set of tires and an ill handling car to continue his impressive start to the 2013 campaign. QUOTE "We adjusted more things tonight.  We pulled shims and put more rounds everywhere than I think I’ve ever done in a race and had a good pit strategy and, fortunately, we came home third.  That’s a gift for us.  I know Martin is not happy with second, but I’m real happy with third.” " Team Report Driver Report
    3. ] Greg Biffle, 4th place, 4th in standings,+ POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    4. ] Joey Logano, 5th place, 9th in standings,+2 Joey had a great run considering the pre race tech inspection failure that almost saw him not make the start of the race. This caused him to have to give up his grid position and start from the back.It took Logano the first 100 laps to work his way up into the top 20 and the next 100 to crack the top 15. Logano benefited when a late race caution came out during a round of green flag pit stops, because Logano hadnt stopped yet he moved up to 4th postion. Joey got as high as 3rd before eventually falling back to finish in fifth, his 2nd top 5 in the last 3 races  POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    5. ] Jimmie Johnson, 6th place, 1st in standings, NC By Lap 206, he was running fourth and reported to Knaus that the No. 48 Chevy SS appeared better on the long run, but admitted he was confused why he couldn’t catch the leaders when his car felt “pretty efficient.” As the race wound down, Johnson, Knaus and the No. 48 team were unable to find more speed at the 1.5-mile speedway, but pitted just ahead of a late-race caution period. Johnson held his position inside the top 11 and pitted when the caution flag was waved with 20 laps remaining. He lined up seventh for the restart with 16 laps left and picked up one position to cross the finish line sixth.POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    6. ] Brad Keselowski, 9th place, 2nd in standings, NC A good run Brad who had to fight back from adversity all night. The pre race failed tech inspection and rush to the grid, an early pit road mistake that moved him from mid pack to the 30th,an unscheduled stop for a vibration that put him 2 laps down by POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    7. Ryan Newman, 10th place, 17th in standings, + A good comeback after a rough couple of weeks for Newman results in a 6 position leap in the standings. Ryan was at the top of the SHR class today. Newman capitalized on a couple of timely cautions, 1 to get back on the lead lap and another to pick up 10 positions when a caution came out while some teams were completing green flag pit stops. FREE Blooming Onions at the outback steakhouse on Monday :), as Ryan gets his 4th top 10 of the season. POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
  3. [underdogs and overachievers]
    1. ] Aric Almirola - 7th place, 14th in standings -  After a very good qualifying effort(3rd), Aric came home with the teams first top 10 of the season. An error entering his pit stall on the first caution dropped Aric back to the 19th position. Aric worked his way back up to the 7th spot by the lap 150 caution for debris. Like many Almirola battled handling problems all race long. Before he pulled down pit road for his final stop, Almirola told the Eckrich crew that the No. 43 Ford was much better. Parrott called for four tires and no adjustments. Clicking off another fast pit stop, the Eckrich crew returned the No. 43 back to the track in the eighth spot. Almirola restarted with 15 laps to go and Jimmie Johnson in his windshield. Problems with the No. 24 gave the No. 43 Eckrich Ford the seventh position. Racing hard for the sixth spot, Almirola kept Johnson in sight but did not have enough laps to make the pass.
      1. QUOTE "We kept making adjustments on the car all night, getting it better and better, and then right there at the end when that caution came out that really hurt us. I think we were running sixth, and we had to take the wave around. I think we restarted back in 14th or 15th, so it was good for us to drive back up through there. I felt really good about our car. I wish we could have kept our track position. I think our night would have turned out a lot differently. I felt like we were a solid top-five car at the end of the race, but we just didn’t make that happen. Still, it was a great day, a great points day for us, and I feel really good about it.”
      2. POST RACE Team Report Driver Report
    2. ] Brian Vickers - 8th place, 46th in standings(PT) - filling in for Denny Hamlin while he recovers from a back injury, started 15th tonight in the No. 11 but quickly climbed into the top ten and was running seventh when the first caution came out 40 laps into the race. Vickers would enter the top five before the handle on his No. 11 Camry began to change causing him to drop just outside the top ten about a third of the way into the race. Vickers would run 14th as the race reached halfway and he battled loose conditions once the sun set on the mile and a half speedway. The FedEx crew would make adjustments under a caution and picked up several spots in the process to restart 10th with 106 laps to go. Another caution with 56 laps to go would allow Vickers to restart fifth with 44 laps to go as several teams were caught in the pits when the caution came out. Vickers lost a couple spots on the restart and was running seventh when a caution came out with 20 laps to go. The FedEx team would put Vickers out sixth with 16 to go. He would go on to finish eighth.
      1. QUOTE “It was a great effort by everyone on this #11 FedEx team,” “Our car didn’t handle as well as we would have hoped, but the guys gave me great stops every time on pit road, and we were able to battle in the top-10 there at the end. It was great to work with Darian (Grubb, crew chief) and everyone on this team, and I’m already looking forward to next week at Kansas.”  "Tonight we were just loose in the long run. We had some runs where we were really fast, and right there with the 22 (Brad Two eights after eight hundred miles... not too shabby! )

  5. x] Television(TV) coverage and Ratings (Texas Motor Speedway, )
    1. ] This site has full stats for the TV broadcast on FOX, which indicated that 180 minutes of the total 220 minutes of the TV broadcast was RACE COVERAGE (81.81%) and the balance was COMMERCIALS(18.19%). This is the 2nd week in a row that TV coverage has exceeded 80% - An improvement!
    2. ] The race had a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX, down from last year's (3.6), and down 5% from 2011 (3.7). Excluding rainouts, the 3.5 overnight is the lowest ever for the spring Texas race (dates back to 1997). As recently as 2007, when the race was still run on a Sunday afternoon, coverage earned a 5.4 overnight. The 3.5 also ranks as the lowest overnight of the season for any NASCAR Sprint Cup race. The previous low was a 4.0 for the Martinsville race one week earlier. Overall, the NRA 500 ranks as one of the lowest rated NASCAR telecasts ever on FOX in the metered markets; the all-time NASCAR on FOX record-low is a 3.3 overnight. The race still ranked as the top non-golf sporting event of the weekend on broadcast television
