  2. [ Best of the Rest - top 10 @  Kansas Speedway ]
    1. Kasey Kahne, 2nd place, 2nd in standings,(+5) another good run for Kahne that saw him end the race chasing down Kenseth for the win just like at the Las Vegas race. Again Kahne came up just shy of getting by Kenseth for the W but the second place points vaulted him 5 positions up in the standings and he is light years ahead of his last years pace when he was mired at 26th place in the standings at this point in the season. POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    2. ] Jimmie Johnson, 3rd place, 1st in standings,(NC) Where did this guy come from? The 48 team qualified poorly, seemed to fail to find any speed during practice, started well back of the field and yet, as they always seems to do battled to the front of the feild.  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    3. ] Martin Truex Jr, 4th place, 14th in standings,(+4) Second consecutive top 5 for Truex who led the race for 46 laps and finished ahead of MWR teamates Bowyer and Mark Martin.Truex overcame a pit road penalty that dropped him from 3rd to 34th. On the final pit stop the Truex crew picked up 5 spots on pit road for Martin  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    4. ] Clint Bowyer, 5th place, 9th in standings,(-1) Clint was solid all day long at his home track. Clint started in 10th position, raced as high as 2nd and never ventured out of the top 15 all afternoon to bring him his 4th top 10 of the season. QUOTE "we weren’t very good in practice. The guys dug deep and leaned on all their tools and got us better. It looked like a wild race right there at the end -- wish we had been a part of it. Nonetheless, it’s exciting to see good racing here.” POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    5. Brad Keselowski, 6th place, 3rd in standings(+1) Brad had a snafu with his seatbelt coming undone during his qualifying run and ended up well back starting the race in 33rd position. The race didnt get off to much better of a start when Keselowski got caught up in wreck on lap# 6 sustaining some rear end damage and going a lap down. Later additional issues with fueling and the rear end bodywork coming off the car due to the earlier damage all posed challengest to the 2 team and all were faced successfully QUOTE Paul Wolfe “We’ve been challenged with a lot of things not going our way, Going, obviously, all the way back to prior to the race at Texas. And just when you think things can’t get any worse, we had the issues we had today. The fueling issues early. We had to fix damage, come back from being a lap down, coming back from the quarter panel flying off, just everything went wrong. But one thing about the 2 team is nobody gives up, everyone kept a positive attitude and kept fighting and we weren't very far from getting a top-five out of it." Perhaps a bigger complement was paid by QUOTE Jimmie Johnson"I could tell they were off sequence, but they had significant speed in their car,” Johnson said. “They've got some stuff stacked against them right now for sure, but they're responding like I thought they would. Paul and Brad are a good combination, and they're both very good at what they do."  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    6. ] Jamie McMurray, 7th place, 11th in standings,(+1) Jamie fought an ill handling race car and came home with his 3rd top 10 of the season. Once again leading the effort at EGR, teamate Juan Pablo was fast in practice but finished well back in 27ths position. A close call that almost saw McMurrary crash out on restart# 5 when he was hit from behind by Mark Martin and eventually fell back as far as 32nd.  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    7. ] Aric Almirola - 8th place, 13th in standings,(N/C)  Another strong effort for the 43 team earning them their second consecutive top 10 finish with the car decked out in the iconic Petty / STP blue colors. A good qualifying effort saw Aric start from 6th postition and run near the front of the pack all afternoon. The STP Farmland Ford restarted eighth with 43 laps remaining. Almirola drove into the sixth position one lap later and held the spot for the next 10 laps. He fell to seventh but continued posting fast lap times Fellow Ford driver Keselowski worked passed the No. 43 in the final laps, and Almirola drove the No. 43 STP Farmland Ford to an eighth-place finish in his 1999-throwback paint scheme.QUOTE Almirola “We thought we had a great car at the beginning of the race, but then the track changed on us and we lost our track position. And then the handling drastically changed on our car, so we had to battle back from that and made a lot of adjustments. Todd Parrott did a great job rallying our guys, making good adjustments and making great pit calls to get some track position. Right there at the end, our guys gave us a great pit stop when it counted, and we got another top-10. That’s two top-10s two weeks in a row, and I’m proud of that.” POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    8. ] Mark Martin - 9th place, 16th in standings(+3 PT)  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
    9. ] Paul Menard -10th place, 10th in standings,(-1) Once again Paul put forth the best effort for RCR teams earning his 4th top 10 of the season. Starting from the 12th place and battling a loose handling car the Menards crew made adjusments and used pit strategy to run top 15 for most of the afternoon. QUOTE Menard "It was an okay day for the Pittsburgh Paints/ Menards Chevrolet SS. It was just really hard to  pass. We've got some of the best pit stops in the  business. My guys do a really good job on pit  road, so we gained a lot there. The pace slowed  down from yesterday, which really caught us off  guard a lot more than we thought. We missed it  a little bit, but you've just got to look back and  utilize the tools and do a better job of starting  the race because we always end pretty good."  POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report
  3. [underdogs and overachievers]
    1. ] Ricky Stenhouse Jr11th place, 18th in standings,(+2) Rookie of the year candidate had his best finish of the season. Stenhouse Jr led a career high 26 laps and surrendered the lead to make a green flag pit stop when a caution came out late in the race costing Ricky a lot of track position QUOTE Stenhouse Jr "The Zest Ford Fusion was the one to beat there at the end, but we didn’t have the track position to finish it off. I think we can take a lot of positives from this weekend. It was cool to lead some laps and be able to donate a little something to OneFundBoston.” POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report

    2. ] Jeff Gordon13th place, 15th in standings,(N/C) After spinning out and hitting the wall on his qualifying run, Jeff had to start from 43rd position, he worked his way to the front but got caught on the last caution that came out after making a green flag pit stop QUOTE Gordon "It cost us probably a good six positions I think.  We weren't the best car, but we made some great improvements throughout the weekend.  The race pace just kind of came to us and the conditions in the race.  Really kind of brought us to life compared to the competition.  We are still lacking a few things, but all in all I thought it was a great effort.  We just cannot catch a break.  That last caution that definitely hurt us being on pit road when the caution comes out it's never a good thing unless you are on a road course (laughs). We were looking pretty good up until that point, but we weren't the only ones that it hurt." POST RACE Team Report, Driver Report

The race ranked as the second highest-rated event of the weekend behind ABC's Lakers-Spurs NBA Playoff game (4.6/10) among the metered markets, the STP 400 on FOX may very well surpass the NBA telecast once the national ratings are released on Thursday.
