re:database developer/programmer
I saw your job posting on craigslist.
> We would like our software to be written in .net or mssql.
I have several years experience with developing asp.net web sites and web applications. I also have a fair bit of experience with database design and development, ranging from microsoft access desktop databases to fully Relational DBMS including oracle, ms sql and mysql.
> You must have experience with designing reports and web-forms with different levels of permissions and rights.
- i love to design reports :)
- setting up different levels of permissions is relatively easy, once you have your users and user roles setup.
> I am looking for someone to help organize and map our old foxpro based data so that is more easily adaptable to more modern databases.
- I can't say that I have any experience working with FoxPro databases or programming language, that being said, if Foxpro can export the current data that you need, chances are your going to want to upgrade your database, as FoxPro has been discontinued for some time. I don't know how much (if any) of the existing fox pro user interface code(assuming thats what your using) would be re-usable. Likely at best, it could serve as a design guideline for a new application.
> Features include: CMS, customer transaction/progress tracking, designing customized reports, basic accounting functions, import/export of EDI data.
- thats sounds like a fair bit of features in one application, it would likely be best to break this down into individual modules.
> Ideally, someone who can rewrite/re-create our data entry/form program into a web based modern language would be ideal.
What i would suggest as a target design architecture for the new application would look something like ...
* web based front end - using standard html, css and javascript to design your applications user interface.
* web based backend - using microsofts open source MVC web programming framework.
* microsoft iis8 web server -
* ms sql database - is a good choice given that your are working with other msft technologies, there are also open source alternatives that may meet your needs as well.
Keep in mind, that when I say web based, these programs don't have to run on a public facing web server, they can run solely on your local office server OR they can run on a public web server where you can access them from anywhere/anytime OR they can be moved to a cloud hosting service (like microsoft Azure) where the option to run them at scale can be easily and quickly implemented.
By using common web applications and web technologies, the number of people who can maintain and develop your applications going forward is much larger than when working with proprietary packages. You also move from having to deploy and maintain your applications on every one of your users desktops to just having to deploy your application on the server.
I would be happy to take a closer look at your project and provide you with a free, no obligation, detailed quote for your specific needs
