web server - a single server (or VM ) handling all of the incoming requests across&nbsp;to your web application&nbsp;
web garden - multiple web hosting processes on 1 machine, scales across multiple processes
web farm - a group of web servers(or VM's) handling all of the incoming requests to your web application. Needs some type of load balancing mechanism to determine when and where to direct requestions, scales across multiple servers 
with multiple servers, your application would have to have some type of load balancing mechanism to dispatch the requests to the appropriate server.
